Fright Night Re-make (which includes David Tennant)
« on: August 18, 2010, 02:46:40 am »

The Playlist is reporting that Dave Franco has been added to the cast of Craig Gillespie's remake of 1985 campy horror film "Fright Night."

The project is currently shooting in New Mexico and boasts a strong cast including Anton Yelchin as the lead, Toni Collette as his mother, Imogen Poots as his love interest, Christopher Mintz-Plasse as his friend Evil Ed, David Tennant as magician Peter Vincent and Colin Farrell as a "Jaws"-like vampire living next door.

“I play the arrogant ahole-bully," explained Franco — "Anton plays the main kid so I’m his nemesis at school until he runs into Colin who is supposed to be the ultimate bad guy in the movie. Yeah I play the d–k, so it’s fun.”

"Fright Night" has a release scheduled for October 7th, 2011.

Remember that Criss Angel-type guy we told you about who'd be replacing Roddy McDowell's Peter Vincent in the new Fright Night? Now you can stop picturing him as the gothic illusionist and imagine him to look like the man who'll actually be portraying him, Dr. Who's David Tennant. According to THR, this time around Vincent will be a Las Vegas magician who utilizes horror-movie imagery during his show. He claims to know everything and anything about vampires, but when Charley (Anton Yelchin) calls upon him to help him out with his bloodsucker problem, Charley doesn't receive the assistance he hoped for.

But wait, there's more. The role of Evil Ed has also been filled by none other than the most fantastically unusual best friend, McLovin himself, Christopher Minzt-Plasse. Evil Ed is Charley's best pal who gets pissed when Charley ditches his nerdy persona and retaliates by joining Jerry (Colin Farrell) as a vampire.

If the whole Vegas twist turned your stomach, this casting news should certainly straighten that out. Tennant was terribly creepy as Barty Crouch Jr. in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. As for Minzt-Plasse's casting, what's there to say? Ever since he debuted in Superbad, he's delivered the best of the best, save for Year One. But that was only a small role, so I'll let that slide and I've yet to see Marmaduke, so he's getting a free pass on that one as well.

So now we've got our Charley, Jerry, Charley's mother (Toni Collette), Vincent and Evil Ed. Who's left? The love interest, of course; Charley's girlfriend Amy. Perhaps this stems from Tennant's casting, but I can picture Emma Watson in the role. Any thoughts?

David Tennant I always like to see.

Do I really want to see a remake of one of my old favourite B grade movies ???
(and boy do I have me a bunch of old faves)

The jury is still out on this one, I probably won't go see it.

Sometimes it's better to just leave the original to stand on it's own.

Remakes, how often are they better than the original ???

It's interesting how Tennant and Baker's careers are panning out with some similarities.

WTF?....seriously that is supposed to be Peter Vincent? ...this is horrible. I can understand giving a person a different look in remakes but wow...just horrible. Tennant could have done good without that crap look, what are they going for the Underworld? or a Johnny Depp type of deal?....blah!

I agree, no need to make him an illusionist that sort of kills it for me right there... Chris Angel, that's who they're shooting for!

Sorry Brandon, that's the Peter Vincent logo in the back and taken right from the Gallifrey Base website update news blog and they don't report photoshop pictures or anything fake. It's why they just reported the story cause official clarification from Tennant's agent was released the day I posted that. As much as I want it to be fake.... it saddly is not!

Roddy McDowall's Peter Vincent was such a complex character...I ADORED the first film...haven't seen the second I'm afraid but this movie...I won't even watch it when it comes on HBO or whatever...this is just a disappointment

The second wasn't as good as the first but it was good fun! The vampire who sired Jerry in the first one comes to town for revenge and even tries to embrace Charlie at one point.
